Cadillac presented its first ever crossover to the European market at a Media Drive in Berlin. The all-new XT5 is a comprehensively upgraded premium crossover and the cornerstone of a new series of crossovers in the brand's ongoing expansion. XT5 will be available at European dealers on September 5th, 2016. It will be offered for a starting price of € 48.800 (Luxury), € 56.800 (Premium) up to € 66.800 (Platinum), prices are referred to the German market.
Cadillac crossovers will wear the "XT" designation, a key aspect of the brand's product-driven global growth plan.
"The all-new XT5 not only enters the most popular segment in the worldwide premium auto market, it is the first of four new crossovers from Cadillac," said Cadillac President Johan de Nysschen. "It's pivotal to our ongoing growth, which is why we've developed XT5 from the inside out to provide customers more space, more technology, more premium and more efficiency."
The new premium crossover joins Cadillac's lineup together with the new range-topping CT6 Sedan, as the brand enters a new phase of product growth. The XT5 is the next chapter in elevating the Cadillac brand: it is bold, distinctive, sophisticated with superb driving dynamics. This new crossover perfectly reflects Cadillac's positioning in the premium automotive marketplace, de Nysschen said.
Chassis - Lightweight, efficient package enables more space.
The XT5 will be the first vehicle developed off General Motors' brand-new global all-wheel-drive midsize crossover architecture. It is approximately 68 kg lighter than the outgoing SRX. The new suspension features lightweight components with a MacPherson Strut design in the front and a five-link independent design at the rear. All versions equipped with 20-inch wheels - standard for Premium and Platinum trims - have a Continuous Damping Control system to manage ride control in real time. Additional ride bushings on the rear cradle are exclusive to the XT5 Platinum model and are specifically tuned to provide added ride comfort for rear seat passengers. With 'Driver Select Mode' three distinct driving modes are available: Touring Mode for everyday driving; Snow/AWD Mode for safe handling in inclement weather; and Sport Mode for an exceptionally engaging experience included with Premium and Platinum models. The new architecture delivers a wheelbase 50 mm longer than the outgoing SRX, and a track 17 mm wider, enabling more useable interior space. However, the XT5's overall length, width and height are fractionally smaller than the SRX. This gives the car a firmly planted stance, and a lean and sleek look. Rear-seat legroom is increased 81 mm in the XT5, compared to the SRX. The rear seat reclines 12-degrees with six stop position and slides fore and aft up to 140 mm as well. It results a class-leading rear legroom of 1004 mm. Thanks to the 40/20/40 split fold-flat second row with remote fold-down release the trunk space is increased up to 1784L (850L behind the 2nd row), a best-in-class result. Interior Design - New Cadillac interior design theme emphasizes space and craftsmanship. The XT5 brings a new level of sophistication to showcase Cadillac's evolving design language, similar to the CT6 Sedan. The XT5 has a strong visual presence with proportions that convey the driving experience and the lightweight construction underneath the surface. There is a lean, taut, liquid quality to the surfaces with flowing, uninterrupted lines separated by crisp edges." The XT5 has a great stance, with wheels further to the corners and overhangs reduced," said Andrew Smith, Cadillac Executive Director of Global Design. "Our team continues to evolve the design language of Cadillac." The XT5's interior is based on a philosophy of clean, modern elegance and craftsmanship. "We believe that premium crossover customers particularly focus on interior design and materials," said Smith. "This design direction is predicated on modern craftsmanship and the artistic integration of technology." Interior surfaces inside the XT5 are wider and more horizontal in orientation, emphasizing efficient use of space. Like all Cadillac models, the interior is assembled with cut-and-sewn wrapped panels, rather than molded surfaces typical of mainstream vehicles." Our focus for the interior was sophistication and simplicity, ensuring an economy of lines to reduce visual noise and clutter," Smith said. "A feeling of space is the ultimate luxury, so we sought to emphasize that. We also use a greater variety of authentic materials and palette of colors to deliver expressive interiors in all trim levels." Cadillac will offer a Platinum edition for the first time in this segment. Made popular initially on Cadillac's Escalade, the XT5 Platinum includes unique interior and exterior trim and materials and combines them with the highest technology features. In total, the XT5 includes six interior color and trim choices, with decorative trim options ranging from carbon fiber to two types of aluminum and three types of genuine wood. Powertrain - Agile performance including 8% fuel economy improvement All new, direct-injected 3.6L V6 natural aspirated petrol engine delivers 314 horsepower (231 kW) and 368 Nm of torque, allowing an impressive acceleration from 0-100 km/h in just 7.5 seconds. A new 8-speed automatic transmission is standard for the XT5, which also debuts Electronic Precision Shift - the first electronically controlled transmission shifter for a Cadillac. Electronic Precision Shift reduces noise and vibration, and it allows for greater use of the cabin space: a 1.5L illuminated and matted storage space beneath the center console. Efficiency is enhanced with Active Fuel Management (cylinder deactivation) and Stop/Start technology, achieving 8% better fuel-economy compared to SRX. Standard all-wheel drive features a continuously variable clutch that infinitely varies power delivery to the front or rear wheels to make the most of handling and stability in all conditions. The AWD system is driver-controlled, and includes a new "disconnect" feature that disables the rear drive unit for improved fuel efficiency and reduced emissions. Advanced Technology - with state-of-the-art Active Safety Systems Cadillac's innovative signature lightning technology offers LED headlamps with IntelliBeam ® and LED daytime running lamps, enhanced with front parking and cornering lamps. Vertical blade LED tail lamps with "multi-level" interior surfacing are standard as well. True 360-degree camera view around the vehicle, displayed on the Cadillac CUE screen, helps reduce blind spots around the vehicle. Rear Camera Mirror is the industry's first application of full-display technology, combining camera technology with the conventional inside mirror to project an unobstructed view in the mirror that improves 300% rear visibility. Automatic Parking Assist (APA) that helps drivers parallel and perpendicular park by automatically steering the vehicle into a detected parking space while the driver follows text commands, selects gear, and does all braking and acceleration. Added active safety features to the Driver Assist Package: Forward Automatic Braking incl. pedestrian detection (operates below <80 km/h, camera, and short- and long-range radar based technology) and Reverse Automatic Braking (below <35 km/h, short-range radar based technology) protects the vehicle and passengers. The rear lift gate of the XT5 includes hands-free operation, allowing it to open or close via gesture control beneath the rear bumper. 8-inch-diagonal CUE capacitive-touch screen with HD resolution reacts faster when scrolling and at navigation entry. It is easy to command with Natural Voice Recognition and thanks to Phone Integration for Apple CarPlay and Android Auto, it's easier to access your phone than ever before. 8.0" colour digital instrument cluster, includes driver personalization, warning messages, vehicle info. Standard wireless phone charging and OnStar 4G with Wi-Fi hotspot. XT5 offers UltraView double-sized sunroof with power sunshade, a segment unique standard offering in among the premium SUVs.
